Vt. Nonprofit Featured On "Oprah Winfrey Show"
WINOOSKI, Vt. -- A Vermont nonprofit that provides reliable cars at minimal cost to people in need is being featured on the "Oprah Winfrey Show."
Hal Colston of Winooski founded the Good News Garage in 1996.
Since then, the idea has spread to other New England states, and caught the attention of Winfrey, who is featuring it Tuesday on a show called "Heroes in Hard Times."
In a segment taped last month, Colston also described his other nonprofit, NeighborKeepers, which connects people with one another to meet everyday needs. It could be donating a computer or helping with child care.
Colston told the Burlington Free Press that he wants to build stronger connections between people and help them understand that they have something of value to contribute.
