PRESS RELEASE

LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE CENTER BREAKS GROUND

Nov. 12th Event Paves Way for Expanded Rehab, Honors Pastor and Mrs. Kennedy

Worcester, Nov 4, 2009...Lutheran Healthcare Center at 26 Harvard Street will break ground on Thursday, Nov. 12, for a new addition and begin work on major improvements to the facility's infrastructure and appearance. The addition will be named the
Paul and Carol Kennedy Wing, in honor of the Rev. Dr. Paul Kennedy and his wife Carol, long time supporters of the historic ministry to older adults.

Events will get underway at 10 a.m., with the groundbreaking in the parking lot behind the building. Guests will then move indoors to the dining room, where guests, including Senator Harriet Chandler and Worcester Mayor Constantine Lukes, will speak briefly. There will be light refreshments.

Since its founding in 1920, Lutheran Healthcare Center has grown from the historic mansion on Harvard Street to its present configuration of three adjacent buildings. The proposed Kennedy Wing will include new resident rooms, bathing suite, day room and exam room. Fourteen-hundred square feet in the existing Olander building will be remodeled to accommodate a state-of-the-art rehabilitation suite.

"Today's elders are living longer, healthier lives, with greater need for short term rehab that prepares them to return home and resume their daily lives," states Administrator Lee Carroll. "We are excited about preparing Lutheran Healthcare Center to meet these changing needs."
