Lutheran Home Christens New Hydrotherapy Tub

SOUTHBURY, CT — Residents, friends and staff of the Lutheran Home of Southbury gathered Wednesday, March 2, to celebrate the dedication of a new hydrotherapy tub.

The new tub is an expression of the Lutheran Home’s commitment to caring for the needs of residents with mid- to end-stage dementia.

Several years ago, LHS’s late Director of Nursing, Joyce Strusky, and Medical Director Daniel Wollman, M.D., Ph.D., began to explore ways to help reduce the frequency and severity of pressure ulcers in residents.  Since the inception of the program, the incidence of pressure ulcers at LHS has dropped significantly. The new hydrotherapy tub will provide an even greater advantage to residents who may be at risk.

The tub is an Apollo Corporation Advantage Seated Bathing System, designed to be therapeutic as well as to provide a calming bathing experience for residents.  Special lighting has been added to create a spa-like atmosphere and a tone of tranquility, enabling staff to bathe residents in soothing comfort.

The purchase and installation of the hydrotherapy tub was made possible through the generosity of many friends and donors to LHS. Fundraising has already begun to add a second bathing suite.

The Lutheran Home of Southbury is a program of Lutheran Social Services, which serves and cares for more than 5,000 people each day throughout New England.  Those seeking additional information about the special mission of the Lutheran Home of Southbury may call 203-264-9135, ext. 322, or visit www.lhsouthbury.org.
