Stand For Welcome
It's not too late to hold a
Stand for Welcome Sunday
at your church or social ministry! The month of March will be a critical time for friends of immigrants to speak out for reform of a broken system. As you know, our immigration laws often separate or keep families apart, while some immigrants await justice in detention facilities, including many where you live.
People of faith across the country have aleady written
three million postcards
urging our nation's leaders to enact compassionate and humane immigration reform. Join these voices by holding a
Stand for Welcome Sunday
and write your own postcards. Our elected officials need to hear that Lutherans like you stand for welcome.
It's also not too late to register for
Ecumenical Advocacy Days
on March 19-22 in Washington, D.C. Learn, worship and speak out about immigrants, refugees and displaced peoples with other activists of faith who care deeply about social justice.
During this weekend, join us as we make our voices heard on Capitol Hill at the
March for America: Change Takes Courage and Faith
on Sunday, March 21. To hear more details about the March, join the National Faith and Immigration conferenence call on Monday, March 1 at 4:00pm EST. Dial 800-920-7487 and enter code 76723736.
In the meantime, you can stand for welcome on-line in just a few short minutes by visiting the
LIRS Action Center
and writing to your lawmakers directly from your computer! Learn more at the
Stand for Welcome
web page, full of mythbusters, frequently asked questions, videos, and other resources about the need for fair and humane immigration reform. Inform and equip yourself to stand for welcome in your community.
Thank you for standing for welcome!
Regards,
Your Friends at LIRS
