Are our children's worries, behaviors, stresses and challenges related to or affected by their adoption.....or is it somethingelse entirely? Sometimes it's difficult to know for sure.....bring your questions and concerns to this interactive conversation led by Lynn Gabbard, MS, adoptive parent and LSS Director of Adoption Services.
Discussion will address common day-to-day occurrences and issues that typically arise in adoptive families from preschool to adolescence and offer insight into ways to better understand the relationship of adoption to common everyday behaviors.

Re-Thinking Adoption in the 21st Century: The Latest Research and Trends that Inform Our Practice"
Adam Pertman, Executive Director of the Adoption Institute, author of the groundbreaking Adoption Nation:How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming Our Families - and America, Pulitzer nominee and Associate Editor of the premier professional journal Adoption Quarterly.
Dr. Ruth McRoy, Board Member and Senior Research Fellow of the Adoption Institute, Professor at Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, renowned author, practitioner, researcher, and trainer for over 30 years whose work has focused on open adoption, transracial adoption, racial identity development, older child adoption, and post-adoption services.
Presenters will discuss the latest research, trends and fundamental changes that affect the future, including dramatic increases in the adoption of children from foster care, the decline in international adoptions, ever-growing internet/social media use, openness, gay/lesbian adoption, etc. They will also lead interactive discussions regarding the profound impact of these changes on adoption policy and practice.

“Back to School: Common Challenges Facing Adopted Children in Preschool and Early Elementary School Years
Lynn Gabbard, MS, Director of Adoption Services will discuss the overarching challenges facing our children as they move beyond family and into the “outside world” of school. Discussion will address common day-to-day occurrences for children and parents, talking with your child’s teacher about adoption, peer issues that typically come up in school and addressing potentially problematic curriculum areas during these years. Interactive question and answer period will be included.

“Back to School: Common Challenges Facing Adopted Children in Later Elementary and Middle School Years”
Lynn Gabbard, MS, Director of Adoption Services will discuss school issues that come up during later school years as children’s perceptions of adoption and being adopted change and grow. Classroom challenges, including curriculum topics and school assignments, as well as changing peer relationships will be discussed. Interactive question and answer period will be included.
