Planned Giving and Bequests
A bequest, or gift by will, is an expression of your desire that a portion of your estate be used to create a legacy that will benefit the clients and programs of Lutheran Social Services for years to come. Bequests may be direct gifts or in the form of trusts, which will allow you to provide for your family’s financial future, while assuring that your desire to benefit LSS will be facilitated at a future date.
A bequest in your will lets you pass any amount you wish to LSS free of estate tax. You can give cash or specific property, a dollar amount or a percentage of your estate, with or without restrictions.
At the option of the donor, gifts directed to LSS can be designated for specific programs (Ruth House, Good News Garage, Emmanuel House Residence, Children and Family Services, Disability Services, Services for New Americans, for example) and/or for the permanent Endowment Fund. Undesignated gifts are directed to Board Restricted Endowment.

We hope that you will let us know when you have included Lutheran Social Services in your estate plans. We would like to include you as an honorary member of our Brook Farm Society. It is our way of recognizing and celebrating the generosity and vision of individuals who establish a planned gift through LSS. All bequests in a will or trust, regardless of their size, are important in helping provide for the mission of serving and caring for people in need. Brook Farm Society membership is based on this method of giving and involves no dues or obligations of any kind. If you have made such a commitment, you automatically qualify as a Brook Farm Society member; simply advise us of your plans. If you wish to remain anonymous, you have only to state that preference. All information you provide will be held in strict confidence.
