About I.L.A.P.

The Immigration Legal Assistance Program (ILAP) was established by LSS on July 1, 2000, to provide legal assistance to immigrants and refugees in Central Massachusetts applying for citizenship and adjustment of status (i.e., green card). In the course of its development, the need for more extensive services was evident, and ILAP has since expanded to provide services to asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and violent crime.

In 2001, ILAP established the Political Asylum Legal Assistance Project (PALAP) to focus on the unique needs of asylum seekers. Since its inception, PALAP has provided representation and/or legal advice to over one thousand clients.

ILAP is a primary provider of pro bono legal services in Central Massachusetts. Through its work, the program hopes to allow asylum seekers and noncitizens the opportunity to begin a new life in the United States.

ILAP is funded by a variety of sources: Massachusetts Bar Foundation, Greater Worcester Community Foundation, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, private foundations, and individual contributors. We are always seeking new sources of support - Please visit the "Get involved" section of the website to learn how to help.
