Children and Family Services
Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is one of the largest social service organizations in New England. We combine personalized, compassionate care with extremely high standards of clinical sophistication and operational excellence to deliver a broad variety of services to children, youth and families; persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness and Deafness; the economically disadvantaged; refugees and older adults. In keeping with our mission, we serve and care for people in need, regardless of religious affiliation.
LSS offers a continuum of community-based programs for families, children and teens at risk that provide safe residential environments and provide services that build and support strong and nurturing families. Our full service adoption programs help to unite children domestically and internationally with loving parents who are prepared to nurture them. Through our teen residential, shelter care and specialized foster care programs, we provide safety and care for children and teens at risk while offering support, and training for families so that they are equipped to care for them.
LSS is committed to the belief that all children deserve a permanent, secure and loving home. To that end, we serve children and families through an array of supportive, therapeutic and educational services that help them through difficult life transitions, for the purpose of providing safety and nurture, opportunities for healthy personal and social development, and the resources that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
These programs and services occur in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and range from international and domestic adoption to specialized foster care for especially high risk children to transitional living for homeless parenting teens and residential support for teens at risk to foster care for refugee children.

- LSS will ensure that children and adults are offered ample opportunity to exercise their freedom of religious expression and spiritual nurture either within their own tradition, or by taking advantage of this agency’s resources for ministry.
- LSS will enable participants to leave their LSS programs empowered with knowledge, resources and skills which will serve and strengthen them for the rest of their lives.
