Citizenship

The Immigration Legal Assistance Project of Lutheran Social Services (LSS) provides free assistance to immigrants applying for citizenship.

Such services include:

• Assistance to complete the citizenship application;
• Assistance to apply for a disability waiver, if necessary;
• Legal consultations about citizenship; and
• Mentorship regarding the civics and government test.

Who is eligible for citizenship?

In general, a green card holder is eligible for citizenship when he or she has been a lawful permanent resident (“green card holder”) for five years or, if still married to a U.S. citizen, for three years.
