Qualifications
Community Support Services of Lutheran Social Services of New England (LSS) in New Hampshire currently provides services to 22 individuals with disabilities and, two years ago, received a start-up grant to provide consumer-directed personal care services through our NH SmartCare program. Our commitment to provide quality services has won us contracts in the past six years that has more then doubled our census. Lutheran Social Services of New England has been in existence for more than 135 years. LSS also offers services to individuals with disabilities in Maine and Massachusetts, as well as being part of the greater Lutheran Services of America’s Disability Network that offers services throughout this country.
Locally, we are a strong team that intertwines years of experience in the field of disabilities with the dreams of individuals and their families to create the best possible outcomes. On September 17, 1997, Governor Jean Shaheen awarded Lutheran Social Services a Citation for our “contributions to the needy citizens of New Hampshire, and for improving the social well being of the state.” Along with funding that we receive for individuals through the area agency, we commit ourselves to exploring alternative options. We have been awarded grant money from the local ARC association to assist an individual in pursuing an interest in art, resulting in two second place awards in community competition to that individual for his art work. We have successfully solicited may area businesses for material and monitory donations to support an annual picnic, and have received grant moneys from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod to provide nontraditional supports for individuals with disabilities as well as to expand our residential services. Community Bridges creative funding strategies have offered us the opportunity to provide community outreach services for individuals living at home with elderly family members, family support services to those family members, and nontraditional supports such as short term evaluation, training, and placement for long term involvement in community social, recreation, leisure and vocational opportunities.
