The Greentree Homes

Making a difference in the lives of adolescents is what the Greentree Homes in Brockton, Massachusetts, are all about. Our goal is to provide professional help and programs which will enable our young residents, ages 12 to 17, to focus on the issues which brought about their need for placement. During a residents stay at Greentree they grow through self knowledge, and heal in the embrace of a caring community, as they begin to develop positive values and attitudes.

What sets Greentree apart from other treatment programs is our emphasis on family outreach. Believing that treatment efforts are most successful when family members participate in the process, our staff travels extensively to include loved ones in the child's healing process.

In the small group setting of the Green Tree Homes, residents set their own treatment goals. With the help of professional therapists, they reach these goals by learning ways to improve and establish realistic relationships with family, peers, teachers, and foster parents, to choose healthy personal values, to use time more wisely, and to select appropriate behaviors for situations they will encounter.

Each program has a fulltime Master’s Level Clinician.  These clinicians are based at each of the group homes and oversee the treatment planning of each resident.  The clinicians are responsible for providing therapeutic groups at the program, and for family therapy that is provided both at the program, and on an outreach basis in the families home.  We think that this will dramatically improve the family reunification outcomes for each program.

During a teenager's stay in the Greentree treatment program, we do our best to create a homelike atmosphere within a structured environment and to maintain as normal a routine as possible. For example, residents enjoy family-style meals and attend a public or alternative school appropriate to their needs. Case managers attend to residents' individual needs by coordinating community resources such as clinics and court and school services. Residents are also offered extensive recreational opportunities, both at the program and in the community.

The leadership and clinical staff have developed a behavior management model that is based on a strength based Phase System.  This Phase System is client centered and will build upon the successes and strengths of each resident.  Residents advance through the phase system after completing goals and once the next phase is achieved, a resident does not “lose” this accomplishment.

The Greentree programs in Brockton have been in operation for more that 12 years, operating both a girls and a boys Group Home community, which is offered to any eligible Massachusetts resident regardless of race or religion. Residents are referred by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF).
