Vietnam & China

If you had told me years ago that by the end of 2004, I would’ve traveled around the world TWICE with my loving husband to adopt our two beautiful children, I most certainly would have thought you were crazy. Well, that’s the truth of it: we’ve traveled to Asia twice to adopt the most awesome kids.

We first thought about adoption when we began having fertility problems. Our health insurance, at the time, did not cover any sort of fertility treatments. So with only a certain amount of funds it was a no-brainer for us that we turn to adoption. As my husband had traveled as a high school student to India and Egypt, he had no doubt in his mind that he wanted to return to Asia to adopt an orphan.

We were referred to LSS through a co-worker of mine and thus began the journey. We were at first interested in China; however I was only 28 so we switched over to Vietnam. Within nine months of our application to LSS we were home with our four month old son, Maxwell. He is a treasure, we’re so blessed.

It was when he was about six that we had the good fortune to begin a second adoption. At that time, Vietnam had been closed to international adoptions so we turned to China. Within a year and a half of our application to LSS, we were home with our beautiful 18 month old daughter. It was a family adventure of a lifetime. Max was seven when we traveled and he traveled great. It was so important to us for him to see the process first hand and be a part of his sister’s life from the very first moment.

We’ve truly been blessed from above with our children. They are vibrant, healthy, smart, loving children. We couldn’t imagine life any other way yet it still seems hard to believe that we’ve traveled around the world twice to be the awesome family we are today. As an added bonus, we’ve made lifelong friends with families we’ve met on our journeys and through the LSS waiting parent groups.
