Services for Older Adults
Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is one of the largest social service organizations in New England. We combine personalized, compassionate care with extremely high standards of clinical sophistication and operational excellence to deliver a broad variety of services to children, youth and families; persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness and Deafness; the economically disadvantaged; refugees and older adults. In keeping with our mission, we serve and care for people in need, regardless of religious affiliation.
LSS has developed a broad range of affordable residential and community-based programs to meet the full spectrum of needs of the older adult population and their families.
The Lutheran Church has been serving older adults in need of residential and nursing care since 1918, when the Lutheran Home of Southbury (LHS), Connecticut, was founded. Today, LHS is one of five LSS residential programs in Connecticut and Massachusetts that encompass a continuum of care for older adults, from skilled nursing and rest home care to assisted living, low income housing and specialized care for those with Alzheimer’s and other memory impairment challenges.

THE LSS PHILOSOPHY FOR SERVICES FOR AGED PERSONS
Our philosophy of care and advocacy for aged persons reflects our belief that God is creator and redeemer of all people, and that each person has value as a human being. Lutheran Social Services respects and seeks to assure the dignity and privacy of each person it serves. It is the goal of Lutheran Social Services to provide the highest standard of services in a continuum of care that fosters autonomy and independence and enhances quality of life.

The Lutheran Home of Southbury
Since 1918, the Lutheran Home of Southbury has served older adults in need of skilled nursing care and residential care, in a quiet country setting. Today's Lutheran Home offers specialized programming for residents with Alzheimer's and dementia related disorders. In 2002, the entire staff received training and certification in these models of care. In addition, the Lutheran Home staff takes pride in caring for the "whole person" by practicing a "social model" of care the encourages increased levels of activity and the participation of all employees in residents'lives.

Lutheran Healthcare Center
Lutheran Healthcare Center has been serving elders in the Worcester community since 1920. Originally the "Swedish Lutheran Old People's Home," today it cares for older adults of all faiths in an atmosphere of compassionate attention to the physical and spiritual needs of all residents. The newly renovated Jeppson wing offers private and semi-private residential support for elders whose needs for nursing care are limited. Fulltime skilled nursing care is offered in the Olander Wing. An energetic residents' council participates in leading the healthcare center's activity program.
